Get Rid of Belly Fat to Find Those Washboard Abs

This will likely surprise you but everyone has washboard abs. The only problem is that most of us have a pretty heavy layer of fat over those abs so you can't see them. You can work out like crazy and still not reveal those washboard abs unless you reduce that layer of fat.

There is actually only one muscle that gives you the 6-pack abs look and that is the rectus abdomin muscle. Even though it looks like 6 to 8 muscles when developed and visible, it is actually just one muscle that goes up the side abdominal walls with 6 to 8 strips of connective tissue. When these connective tissues are built up, that's when they become visible. The number of connections varies from person to person so while most have the 6-pack referred to, other people can have 8 or even an odd number.

Of course, there are five other muscles found in the abdominal area that are also important to develop. These other muscles are not so visible but they help to support both your spine and those front muscles you so covet so all the abdominal muscles should be worked on. These other muscles are the transverse abdominus, the internal obliques and the external obliques.

The transverse abdominus is the most internal muscle in the abdomen and it wraps around the torso, offering support to the spine, as well as the rest of the body. No matter how much you workout, you'll never see this muscle from the outside as it's too deep within the body. The internal obliques are a pair of muscles next to the transverse abdominus, lending further support to your body's core. You also won't see these muscles from the outside. The external obliques, on the other hand, are another pair of muscles in the abdomen. These muscles can become visible as you develop your washboard abs.
