Do Washboard Abs Come From All Six Stomach Muscles? You'll often hear fitness experts and personal trainers talk about targeting and working various muscles in the abdomen like the obliques. This sounds like it would work so you follow along blindly for months only to realize that you are no closer to getting those washboard abs than you were when you started. That's because the obliques are not the muscle that gives you washboard abs. Let's take a look at the six muscles in the abdomen. The most innermost muscle in the abdomen have nothing at all to do with getting washboard abs – no matter how much you work out, they are just too deep within the body to be seen. This muscle, called the transverse abdominus, is one big muscle that basically wraps around the body and provides support for good posture. The next deepest set of muscles is a pair of muscles called the internal obliques. As you might guess from the name, these are also fairly deep within the body. No matter what the experts may say about working these muscles, they won't help you get the 6-pack you are looking for. Then we have the other obliques called the external obliques. These muscles don't directly contribute to washboard abs but they do show through to a degree when worked. So a workout that affects these muscles will help you have a stronger core and more defined body. Finally we have the rectus abdominus. This muscle is the one responsible for your 6-pack as it is the most external stomach muscle. All those exercises that work the rest of the stomach muscles will not help you get the stomach you want. The rectus abdominus is the one that must be targeted to get washboard abs. Click here so you can be on your way to getting a ripped body with awesome washboard abs. |
